First of all, it ain’t easy!
One of the main experiences I had when I first came to Mighty Man was learning the various rules that they had. Guys in the process have to ask for everything. They ask to use the bathroom. They ask to use the salt and pepper. They ask for a napkin. Most addicts are takers. They are used to taking everything without having to ask. We try and instill a sense of humility by teaching them to ask for things.
Another rule we have is 100% accountability. None of the guys are ever alone while in the process. They have to have someone with them at all times. The only exceptions to this are when showering and when using the bathroom. Otherwise, you must always be joined at the hip with another person in the process.
The third rule I would like to mention is we also have 100% transparency. Everything is always out on the table, so to speak. We don’t do secrets such as grudges or behind the scenes negativity. We discuss everything at the table during class. This encourages healthy conversation and interaction between peers. If you have something against someone, bring it up. Let’s talk about it together and come to an understanding. We solve all of our problems this way. It helps everyone grow and become a better communicator.
These are just a few of the rules we have our participants follow here at Mighty Man. The entire experience is a huge learning process. Mr. Gary (the owner/founder) is a process engineer. He designed this “process” to help addicts learn all of the lessons that they missed in their childhood. The lessons their fathers didn’t teach them for whatever reason. Maybe it was distance, or absence altogether. Nevertheless, the lessons must be learned in order to overcome typical addictive behavior and criminal thinking.
In my experience of the Mighty Man process, I discovered there were a lot of lessons I needed to learn. I needed to learn some humility, I was very lacking in that department. I needed to learn grace, I was so performance driven.
The beautiful thing to me now, is seeing this transformation in other guys that are going through this process. Seeing their relationship with God grow. Seeing them become more Christ-like. Seeing them discover the reality of God’s presence in their lives. This is something beautiful to behold. I am so grateful to get to be a part of it. I am so glad to be here.
